BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

The programme is offered in the Business Administration College of Social and management Sciences. The programme is to facilitate the education and training of managers at various levels (undergraduate, postgraduate and professional).

Philosophy

The philosophy of the programme is aimed at developing the total being of a manager. In this connection, this curriculum is designed to develop the mind and impart theoretical and practical knowledge that will encourage self-reliance in the individual. The curriculum will also enable him/her to understand, exploit and improve his environment.

Objectives

The following are the specific objectives of the programme:
(i)    To provide basic knowledge needed for the understanding and analysis of problems related to the management or administration of industrial, commercial, public and other human organisations.
(ii)    To equip students of management with the skills needed for recognizing and defining problems and taking appropriate decisions using scientific techniques and tools.
(iii)    To inculcate in the students, an awareness of, and sensitivity to, environmental factors and conditions and their impact on managerial/administrative practice and decisions.
(iv)    To develop leadership and interpersonal relations skills which are needed for working in organisations.
(v)    To develop a knowledge and understanding of the concepts, problems and practice of management.
(vi)    To equip students with a thorough knowledge and understanding of responsibilities typically exercised within the management, industrial, marketing, operation and personnel functions.
(vii)    To develop clear principles and values to guide ethical conduct at the individual, corporate and national levels.

Programme Duration

i.    B.Sc.  – 4 years (8 semesters)
ii    Semester – 15 weeks (excluding exam period

Entry Requirements

(A)    General Admission Requirement:

Minimum entry qualification into part-time B.Sc. Business     Administration degree programme is five credits     relevant related subjects including English and     Mathematics obtained in not more than two sittings in any     of  the following examinations:
•    SSCE, WAEC, NECO, GCE WAEC, GCE NECO,     NABTEB or their     equivalents

(B)    Direct Entry Requirement

In addition to the general admissions requirement stated above, an applicant is expected to posses any of the under-    listed qualifications:

i.    A minimum of two relevant subjects passed at GCE Advanced level Examination     at least, a lower credits pass grade of National Diploma in Business Administration or related disciplines
ii.    NCE, at least 3 subjects passed on merit a foundation level pass at the professional stage of any relevant professional examination
(ICSA, IPMN, ICAN, CIBN, CISBN).
